Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who has made it his mission as the new chairman of the House Intelligence Committee to relitigate an investigation that was already completed, said this week that he was not convinced that Robert Mueller’s finding of no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia actually means there was no collusion. In fact, Schiff appears to be more certain than ever that our president committed a conspiracy against the United States.
As for evidence? Well, no, he has none of that. But he believes it, so what more do you want?
“Undoubtedly there is collusion,” Schiff told the Washington Post. “We will continue to investigate the counterintelligence issues. That is, is the president or people around him compromised in any way by a hostile foreign power? It doesn’t appear that was any part of Mueller’s report.”
Hmm, well if the special counsel determined that there was no collusion, why would there be any reason to suspect that members of the Trump administration are “compromised” by Russia? Is Schiff seriously trying to make us believe that Mueller did not investigate the veracity of that stupid dossier?
Here’s a hint: the FBI stopped renewing its FISA warrants on Carter Page in September 2017, a few months after Mueller assumed the job. We would imagine that Mueller made the dossier his prime focus for those first months and quickly determined that it was as silly and fact-free as we all knew it was. And since that was the only piece of evidence being used to spy on Page…
Well, you get the idea.
Strange that Schiff wouldn’t see what’s clearly in front of his face. You’d almost begin to believe there was some political motivation behind his bullheaded assertions. You’d almost think that he’s spent the last five months telling himself what a big star he was going to be once he became the Democrat to take Trump down. Yeah, it’s hard to let a dream die.
But it’s one thing for Rachel Maddow to keep going on television every night to bloviate about dark Russian secrets. It’s quite another for the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee to waste the next two years – not to mention millions in taxpayer money – on a wild goose chase that has already been investigated – TWICE. This is an abuse of power and the Republicans calling for Schiff to step down are absolutely right.
