The thirty or forty people who tuned into watch the latest Democratic Party debate on PBS were in for a treat on Thursday. In a departure from tradition, the candidates used their time in front of a national television audience to explain, in great detail, why neither they nor anyone in their party should ever be allowed anywhere near the levers of power in Washington. Indeed, after listening to these yoohoos talk for a couple of hours, you might start to legitimately worry that a strange sort of mental infection has begun to take root in the Democrat mind. Certainly, that would be one way to explain some of the truly frightening things we heard these candidates say.
Take the supposedly-moderate Pete Buttigieg, for instance, and his anti-democratic remarks about the Supreme Court.
“It is critical that we have justices who understand that American freedom includes reproductive rights and reproductive freedom,” Buttigieg said. “Which is why I will not only appoint judges and justices who reflect this worldview, but also begin moving to reform the body itself, as our country has done at least half a dozen times in its history so that it is not one more political battlefield every single time a vacancy comes up.”
In other words, he’s talking about court-stacking. He’s talking about expanding the number of Justices on the Court until liberals get enough of “their” guys to shift the balance of political power. These are the same Democrats who cried bloody murder when Mitch McConnell refused to hold a vote on Merrick Garland, mind you. Just another sign that winning is all that matters to these people.
But if watching a Democrat vow to turn the Supreme Court into a wholly-Democratic Party institution doesn’t get your juices going, maybe you’ll be interested in listening to Elizabeth Warren explain how it’s time to release Islamic terrorists from Gitmo.
“It’s time to close this detention facility,” said the warrior princess. “It not only costs us money; it is an international embarrassment. We have to be an America that lives our values every single day.”
Oh no, an international embarrassment? It should be immediately disqualifying for any politician to base their agenda on pleasing the rest of the world. The United States determines the direction of the world, period. Warren (and she’s not out of step with her party on this one) believes that we should sit down, shut up, and listen to our “betters” in Europe, Canada, and, hell, probably Venezuela as well.
Okay, you don’t care about re-homing terrorists? Maybe you’ll be fascinated by Joe Biden’s plan to trade skyrocketing employment levels for climate wokeness.
“As president,” the moderator asked, “would you be willing to sacrifice some of that growth, even knowing potentially that it could displace thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of blue-collar workers in the interest of transitioning to that greener economy?”
“The answer is yes,” Biden said. “The answer is yes because the opportunity — the opportunity for those workers to transition to high-paying jobs, as Tom said, is real.”
Sure it is, Joe. Let’s hear your detailed plan on moving coal miners and oil workers into the IT industry. Hey, maybe some of those terrorists from Guantanamo can learn to code while we’re at it!
This was only a tiny taste of the insanity on display during Thursday night’s debate, but everyone on that stage demonstrated – conclusively – their unfitness for the White House. The left freaks out whenever Trump jokes about staying in power beyond his term limits, but if this is an illustration of the alternative, let’s just crown the guy President For Life and be done with it.
