Turning Point USA created a brilliant video this week that interspersed clips of the most heartwarming, patriotic moments of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address with the shot of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripping the speech in half at the end of the address.
Seeing as how Pelosi made it a point to tell the press that she couldn’t find “one page of truth” in the entire speech, we see this as an entirely fair representation of what she did. There’s no manipulation to the video. There’s no digital enhancement. It’s simply edited to show Pelosi doing exactly what she did: Crapping all over some of the finest moments of one of Trump’s best speeches.
But because the video is so effective at making Pelosi look like an unpatriotic, partisan, sour shill of a human being, Democrats are fit to be tied.
Especially after Trump himself tweeted out the video.
“The latest fake video of Speaker Pelosi is deliberately designed to mislead and lie to the American people,” said Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill. “Every day that these platforms refuse to take it down is another reminder that they care more about their shareholders’ interests than the public’s interests.”
KCBS reporter Doug Sovern jumped on the bandwagon, insisting that the video “sure appears to violate @Twitter’s new ban on videos that are fabricated or altered to mislead.”
“This edited video, which makes it look like Nancy Pelosi is disrespecting U.S. service members, is the perfect example of a video that Twitter should label under its new ‘manipulated media’ policy,” whined Bloomberg reporter Kurt Wagner.
In response, Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said, “If Nancy Pelosi fears images of her ripping up the speech, perhaps she shouldn’t have ripped up the speech.”
Benny Johnson of Turning Point USA also made a great point, saying, “The video included no deep fake technology, no motion graphics, no footage or audio from other events. If our video is ‘doctored’ and ‘manipulated,’ then literally every minute of every entertainment, sports and political media has been doctored and manipulated as well.”
In order to believe that Americans would be “fooled” by the video, you would have to believe that people are stupid enough to think that Pelosi stood up and ripped the speech in half 10 or 15 times throughout the evening, choosing to do so exclusively at the least opportune times. There are a lot of dumb people in this country, granted, but we’re not convinced that anyone is THAT dumb.
But the video is powerful, and the reason Democrats are so upset is that they know there’s a strong kernel of truth behind the message: Nancy Pelosi (and the rest of her party) doesn’t give a damn about anything other than hating, defeating, and getting rid of Donald Trump. And yes, if that means disrespecting veterans and fallen heroes, then that’s just what it means.
They’re not angered because the video is fake; they’re angered because it’s a little too close to the truth.
