Famed attorney Alan Dershowitz wrote a very interesting and revealing op-ed for The Hill last week in which he criticized Democrats like Maxine Waters who have encouraged liberal business owners to shun members of the Trump administration. In it, Dershowitz, who has refused to carry water for the Mueller witch hunt and other #Resistance efforts that have long since betrayed any constitutional foundation, claims that he has been marginalized by his liberal friends up on Martha’s Vineyard. According to Dershowitz, they’ve wanted nothing to do with him since he began speaking out against the civil rights violations the Obama administration and the current Special Counsel are guilty of.
“The divisions have gotten so bad that many on both sides refuse to speak or listen to those on the other side. Either you are for Trump or against him, and that is all some people need to know to make judgments about you,” he wrote. “I know this because I have experienced this firsthand on Martha’s Vineyard.”
Dershowitz goes on to explain that he defends Trump not because he is a supporter of the president, but because the law is the law, no matter who happens to occupy the White House.
“I am a liberal Democrat in politics, but a neutral civil libertarian when it comes to the Constitution,” he wrote. “But that is not good enough for some of my old friends on Martha’s Vineyard. For them, it is enough that what I have said about the Constitution might help Trump. So they are shunning me and trying to ban me from their social life on Martha’s Vineyard. One of them, an academic at a distinguished university, has told people that he would not attend any dinner or party to which I was invited. He and others have demanded ‘trigger warnings’ so that they can be assured of having ‘safe spaces’ in which they will not encounter me or my ideas. Others have said they will discontinue contributions to organizations that sponsor my talks.”
Assuming what Dershowitz says is true (and frankly, we’d be shocked if it wasn’t), it really tells you a lot about the moral code of liberal elitists. These wealthy liberals apparently had no problem at all with their old pal Dershowitz defending Bill Clinton for his immoral escapades in the White House. And they were only too happy to welcome him into their homes after he joined O.J. Simpson’s Dream Team of ethically-challenged lawyers.
It seems to be that on Martha’s Vineyard, it’s perfectly fine to use every dirty trick in the book to mislead a jury into acquitting a double murderer, but a transgression of unforgivable proportions to defend the duly-elected, Republican President of the United States.
Sounds about right.
