Thanks to the ongoing collaboration between the leftist media and the Southern Poverty Law Center, get ready to hear more stories like this one. Networks like CNN refuse to be honest about the SPLC’s pedigree. They treat them like experts in the field of American “hate,” instead of letting their viewers know that the SPLC is a completely partisan organization that has a very loose, left-leaning definition of hatred and bigotry. As such, we get lists like the one CNN published this week, where mainstream conservative groups are lumped in with the likes of the Ku Klux Klan.
If you peruse the list of questionable entries, it becomes quickly obvious what’s going on. The SPLC (and media organizations like CNN) have been wholly duped by the Islamist propagandists. So any group or website that comes out against dangerous Islamic theocrats – many of which are doing the bidding of actual jihadists – will be labeled “anti-Muslim” and therefore guilty of hate rhetoric. Put that together with web hosting companies suddenly deciding to deprive hate groups of online oxygen, and you have a combustible situation where our free expression is compromised.
Just look at some of the groups the SPLC and CNN consider to be extremist hate groups: The David Horowitz Freedom Center, ACT for America (750,000 members strong), Jihad Watch (an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to know what the Islamists are up to), the Center for Immigration Studies (again, a wonderful group that does extraordinary work in telling the truth about our border issues), and the Family Research Council (which has been deemed “anti-gay” for advocating socially conservative policies).
This is, unfortunately, why it’s not a good idea to make a meme out of “CNN is fake news.” While there’s a lot of truth to that, it almost serves to give the network a pass. You hear a story like this and your first tendency is just to wave it away: Ah, it’s CNN, what do you expect? That’s not good enough. The sad fact of the matter is that this network is still promoting itself as an unbiased news organization and it is still seen that way by millions of Americans. Therefore, they cannot be left off the hook. We can’t just say, “Bah, they’re fake news, anti-Trump liberals” and leave it at that, no matter how factual it may be. We have to keep the pressure on, and we have to push them to be better. Because the alternative – pushing them to acknowledge that they ARE what we KNOW they are – is never going to happen.
