In one of those beautiful moments where former Vice President Joe Biden reminds us that, in many ways, he’s just as radical and unhinged as Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, the Democratic contender said Saturday that he would place “transgender equality” at the forefront of the civil rights debate in modern times.
“Let’s be clear: Transgender equality is the civil rights issue of our time,” Biden tweeted. “There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights.”
This would seem to be a proclamation out of nowhere, but it may be more timely than it appears. Sanders is currently taking heat for an endorsement he touted from podcaster and UFC commenter Joe Rogan. Among Rogan’s many sins, according to the left, is that he expressed condemnation of MMA fighter Fallon Fox, a man who was allowed to compete against women in the octagon. Fox, who is championed by the LGBT community for his “brave” pioneer status, destroyed the careers of at least two women during his reign of terror.
Biden didn’t mention Sanders or Rogan; then again, he also didn’t bother illuminating the civil rights that transgender people currently lack. As far as we can see, that’s because there are none. This is just an opportunity for ol’ Joe to jump in out of nowhere and pander to one of the smallest and most insignificant special interest groups in the country. Way to go, Mr. Vice President.
But while it would be tempting to just write this off as meaningless banter from a candidate trying desperately to prove his relevance, it’s actually an important glimpse into what’s at stake in this election. Not only will ANY Democrat take us in a wildly liberal direction economically, he or she will also use the bully pulpit of the presidency to preach the cause of Marxist “social justice” from the Oval Office. And since we’re sitting at a time when those principles are growing more detached from scientific reality with every passing day, it’s an experiment we can’t afford to encourage.
See, it’s not transgender people who are in danger of losing their civil rights; it is parents, teachers, scientists, doctors, and people from all walks of life who don’t believe that we should be administering hormones to kids with “gender dysphoria” diagnoses. It is everyone who believes that, while there may be some rare cases where people genuinely feel as if they are “in the wrong body,” it is a far smaller portion of the population than is currently seeking gender reassignment. This has become a full-fledged fad, encouraged by reckless social scientists who think that the moment a boy picks up a Barbie or a girl climbs a tree, they are expressing a desire to change genders.
This goes way beyond bathroom privacy or even the undeniable “ick” factor. This is about pumping the brakes on social upheaval that has very little, if any, scientific support behind it. And at the very least, we need a president with the common sense (and the courage) to see that.
